At Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is at the heart of who we are and what we do. It guides us to live out the Gospel message of love, justice, and service to others.
In Scripture we are told ‘…you have been called for this purpose…so that you might follow in His footsteps’ (1 Peter 2:21) and taught to ‘Love one another as I have loved you’ (John 13:34). With this in mind, we strive to follow His example in all areas of school life. CST inspires us to see every person as made in the image of God and to care for our common home, ensuring that our faith is lived out through action.
We explore the principles of Catholic Social Teaching through our RE lessons, wider curriculum, pupil leadership and our prayer and liturgy, as well as in our outreach to the wider community. Whether through our charity work, actions outside of school, or prayer intentions for others, we help pupils understand that their words and actions can bring about positive change.
As Pope Francis reminded us, “The future does have a name… and its name is hope.” Our mission is to nurture that hope in every child, helping them to look outward with compassion and to play their part in making the world a better, fairer, and more loving place for all.
The children learn about CST with the support of CAFOD’s animals – each one representing a different area.
