At Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School we have a strong sense of inclusion that ensures we treat everyone with respect and as equal members of our school family. We believe that every child deserves an education where their full potential is achieved personally, spiritually, emotionally and academically. We believe that it is essential that our pupils are equipped with the tools needed to become independent, inquisitive learners both in and out of the classroom.
At Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School we understand that children learn and develop in different ways. Teachers recognise this and use different teaching styles, resources and plan different levels of work in the classroom to cater for the various ways children learn, this is called Quality First Teaching.
Through our high quality planning, teaching and provision we:
- Understand that every teacher is a teacher of every child, including those with SEND.
- Pride ourselves on early identification for SEND to ensure that progress and opportunities are maximised.
- Ensure that we provide a broad and balanced curriculum which is an engaging and experiential learning journey for all children including those with SEND.
- Provide an accessible learning environment which is tailored to the individual needs of all pupils.
- Work hard to ensure that we provide a richness and depth of learning, to equip all children with the skills and knowledge they need to create links between what they have learnt and the rest of their lives.
- Work in partnership with parents and carers.
- Work closely with external agencies and other professionals to hone and develop our provision for children with SEND.
- Ensure all pupils are given the opportunity to achieve to the best of their abilities, despite any difficulty or disability they may have.
- We provide enrichment and enjoyment opportunities to stimulate and motivate learning for all children.
There may be a time in their school life, when a child may need specific interventions and individual additional support. We aim to identify any specific needs as soon as possible. This may be identified due to factors such as changes in behaviour, limited progress or concerns raised by pupils, parents or carers, Doctors, Health Care Workers or Social Workers.
If you have any concerns or questions with regards to your child we are here to listen. In the first instance please speak to their class teacher or contact Mrs Reece through the School Office. Mrs Reece is our school Inclusion Manager who works with pupils, parents, carers, teachers and outside agencies to ensure that all children feel welcome and valued, and that children identified as having Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities are supported to reach their full potential.
