Computing

At Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, we encourage the children to use computational thinking and creativity to better understand our ever-changing world as it provides insights into both natural and artificial systems. Through computer science pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Developing pupils knowledge and understanding enables them to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Pupils also become digitally literate and able to express themselves and develop their ideas through information and communication technology.

This enables us to live, love and learn about the technological world of their everyday lives.

Computing is a sacred subject:

Computer science opens up for the learners the possibility of being key influencers and transformational leaders at a local, national and global level.
The development of computational thinking and operational skills calls for the formation of learners who prioritise the importance of justice, equality, truth and the common good of all people
Computing and technology show how God has created his people to be creatives themselves

Computing enables pupils to know the universal story they are a part of:

Story Past – the invention and use of computing systems and the increasing pace of technological development.
Story Present – the pivotal part computing currently plays in our everyday lives, discussing its helps and hindrances to individuals and communities
Story Future – how the development of computing technology can be used for the common good of all people and the natural world
