At Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, we believe that the teaching of PSHE helps to develop rounded individuals, who have a strong awareness of self and can aspire to be the best versions of themselves. PSHE equips pupils with the tools they need to live happy and healthy lives, become responsible citizens and understand the impact they can have in making the world a better place.

This enables us to live, love and learn as balanced individuals in a rich and diverse society.

PSHE is a sacred subject:

  • PSHE enables all learners to look inwards, and to admire the uniqueness of God’s perfect design.
  • It enables pupils to look around them; to appreciate the qualities of each other, to learn from each other and to appreciate the rich tapestry of society that they can contribute to.
  • In an ever-changing, ever more demanding world, PSHE provides pupils with the spiritual tools they need to look after body and mind.
  • It enables pupils to be the best they can be, to fulfil the plan that God has for each one of them.

PSHE enables pupils to know the universal story they are a part of:

  • Story Past – learning lessons from the history of our society and health.
  • Story Present – recognising the increased importance that is placed on the wellbeing of people in society, in order to live happy and fulfilled lives.
  • Story Future – the difference they could make to their own future, and the future of the world we live in.

Below are some examples of how our teaching of PSHE contributes to our whole school pupil characteristics:
