At Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, we believe that the teaching of science should inspire curiosity and a thirst for knowledge about the world around us, the famous scientists who have inspired generations and the diverse groups of people that interact with one another. Understanding science helps pupils to know their place in, and how to impact upon, the world.

This enables us to live, love and learn by investigating the world and people around us.

Science is a sacred subject:

  • Science enables all learners to experience the beauty, awe and wonder of God’s world and to develop an awareness of their place in it.
  • All places and spaces have a story shaped by humans, location, climate and politics.
  • Science gives us a spatial awareness of the globe and serves to form, in us, respectful attitudes that remind us we are stewards and not masters.
  • Our theology helps us to recognise that we are responsible for caring for our planet and the environment, with a global interdependence, accountability and responsibility for the common good of all people.
  • Our stewardship must reflect our understanding that the planet is our irreplaceable home

Science enables pupils to know the universal story they are a part of:

  • Story Past – the developing and changing nature of scientific advancement in technology, environmental considerations, caring for our oceans and the climate.
  • Story Present – working scientifically, considering their country and the world as they can experience it.
  • Story Future – our responsibility and calling in the climate crisis to work scientifically on the world’s journey towards new creation
